About Me
I began my adventures in glass more than 50 years ago. It started with a visit to the home of a family friend who was working on a stained glass window. I was fascinated with the colors and textures of the glass and the puzzle-like quality of the design.
Fast forward close to 20 years and I found myself taking my first class and getting completely hooked on stained glass. What started out as a hobby ended up being a business for more than 20 years.
Summer Wind Stained Glass was born close to the Bay Area in the Montezuma Hills of California. My husband, Ross Peters, became my partner in art when we purchased a building in the small Delta town of Isleton on the Sacramento River in 1994. We did custom pieces for homes, businesses, and corporations. We taught classes, sold supplies, did repairs, and had the time of our lives!
Now it is just me, in a studio that once was a garage, in the small hamlet of Cambria on the Central Coast of California. I do mosaic work for the most part, using stained glass, crockery, beads, metals, and found objects.
Sacred Heart Mosaics came out of my love of hearts, how they universally represent love in all its forms and from my pouring my own heart into the work that I did while grieving the loss of people that I deeply loved. I found solace in the process of mosaic work itself, and comfort in the ease of the heart shape.
Some of my heart pieces contain skulls, which are not everyone’s cup of tea, but for me they are a kind of “memento mori” (an artistic or symbolic term serving as a reminder of the inevitability of death). To me they represent our loved ones who are on the other side, and remind us that death is a part of life.
I feel as if I have just begun this journey of self-expression and creativity through mosaics and look forward to seeing how my work evolves over time. I hope that you will join me in this adventure.
